Function Focused Hypno-Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy in another key

"Hypnosis engenders an entirely optimistic appraisal of people. Therapy is organised around the belief that people can discover and develop the very resources within themselves that they need. Hypnosis creates an amplified, energised, high-powered context for people to explore, discover, and use more of their innate abilities........ Hypnosis is not the therapy, and hypnosis itself cures nothing. Rather hypnosis is the vehicle for empowering people with the abilities and realisations that ultimately serve to help them"

Dr Michael Yapko, 2011, "Mindfulness and Hypnosis: the power of suggestion to transform experience"

Mission

FFH-P seeks to change how therapeutic hypnosis is defined and perceived. This approach delineates clinical hypnosis through a structured approach to "talk": therapy that is congruent with that adopted by psychiatry and general practice in behavioural medicine medicine. Psychotherapy with hypnosis as an adjunct leads to much better results and less relapse than psychotherapy alone. Every patient is unique and within the more than 400 psychotherapies available there are many evidence-based clinical self-regulatory tactics from which to choose for each patient. Each and every one of them can be enhanced in efficacy by using established hypnotic language structure, tactics and strategies as an adjunct to the chosen psychotherapeutic techniques. As Prof. Sugarman and Dr Anna Hope of the RIT centre for applied Psycho-physiology and self -regulation have said:

"it is well established that in healthcare encounters, language, relationships and attitudes have significant and powerful effects on outcomes, both psychologically and physiologically. Clinical hypnosis harnesses those forces for the benefit of the patients - helping them help themselves, while increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of health interventions..by becoming more skilled in hypnosis and self- hypnosis, we can learn to intentionally apply our trances, resources and relationships to move toward health, balance and wellness with more self-control and self awareness throughout the process"
